But seriously, I kinda doubt it. First off, they have bigger issues than trying to enter into yet another potentially losing direction; internally, they are very focused on regaining the public’s perception that they are top dog when it comes to technology in the fab. (Note that I did not say ACTUALLY regaining that title.) Both of those do not lend themselves to a decision to start designing new products for hardware they don’t know how to sell.
Besides, their fabs already print money. Why chase this when your products still have some of the highest profit margins in existence? It wouldn’t make any sense to jeopardize that.
But then again, maybe Mr. Gelsinger knows something I don’t. He didn’t get to where he is by being dumb; on the flipside, never bet against me being stupid.
