Best PSUs for Goldshell Boxes?

So I have ordered a Goldshell KD box, and I am trying to get ready for setup.

I was hoping for some suggestions for the best PSUs for them? Within the next year I would like to be running 3-4 of them if that helps.

So here are my questions…

  1. what PSU would I need to run 3-4 KD boxes?

  2. Since these have low power consumptions of just 205W, so do I need to upgrade my homes electrical at this point?

  3. How much heat do these little boxes put out?

  4. am I forgetting anything else I will need other than the PSU at this time?

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Dan

Most of these boxes are going to be running off of a PCI-E cord. The PS will simply plug into a 120 outlet. With 4 boxes you should be using about a 1200W PS. Any computer power supply will work, though it may require a jumper for startup which can be easily found on Youtube.

You can get an APW 7 power supply, these can run up to 8 mini miners. all for around $200.

@Aaron_Raycove so is this the one you are talking about? https://www.amazon.com/Bitmain-Antminer-Supply-APW7-Connectors/dp/B07FG81F7H

Thats the one.

Just make sure the circuit you pulling the power from is not being used by other energy demanding devices.

If you have 4 if them, the noise is a fan on medium. You will notice and heard them.

Their internal fans does a good job pulling air through the cooling fins. So you will notice the the temperature difference from 4 units.

They only pull 205w so 4 would be 820w, which would require 7 amps. For a PSU you can use a 1000w 80 gold or higher rated.

Great tip! I’ve decided to put it in the empty 3rd stall in my garage. Luckily there are just a few LED lights and a garage door opener in there. Nothing else. I will have to see how much energy the garage door opener pulls when it is being used…

I have 7 Goldshell Box miners. 2 are running off of Goldshell’s $100 single miner power supply. It’s like a large silent laptop power supply with no fan. 3 are running off of an 850w MSI power supply. 2 are running off of a 750w EVGA power supply.

You can run 8 off of one APW7 as Aaron suggested. Keep in mind that each miner puts off a good amount of heat. It’s nothing crazy like a large miner does. But I’m actually glad I split mine up.

I have one in a bedroom, one in our sunroom, three in the basement (gets cold down there) and two in my office. Spreads the heat out.

This works for winter but for summer I may have to put them all either in the basement or in the garage. When it was over 60F outside the two in my office would make it like 80 in there and I had to keep opening the windows. Originally I had 3 in my office and had to swap the basement / office setup because it was just too hot in my office.

You may want to pick up two 850 power supplies instead of one apw7 (or 1,000w ATX style) if you think you may want to run them in two spots in your hose. You’d be limited to about 3 Box miners per PS at 850w. Just something to think about.

thanks JoeJoe! Gives me a lot to think about. I may even consider putting two boxes in my basement during the winter bc it gets pretty cold down there…I could be mining and heating my basement at the same time. genius!

How do you get the box
Miners to power up? I got the psu on but none of the miners will turn on.

What kind of power supply do you have? Depending on which one you have, you may need to use a jumper. If you google power supply jumper or bridge you’ll see what I’m talking about. There’s also YouTube videos on it. @Talal_Perez_Ghosheh

I can tell you 10 mini doge will heat a bedroom up to 80 degrees… I have 240 power in the room I Mine in and use bitmain apw7 it will run 5 and is fairly cheap on Amazon for $115 dollars

with the apw7, did you need to get a power jumper to get the miners running or is it plug and play?

I been using the APW7 on 8 KD boxes since December 2021 no problems with them at all works great, I can send videos and pics if needed.
