Bobcat issues after Solana migration

I’m sure I am not the only person with issues with their hardware after the Solana migration of Helium. I reached out to Bobcat and received this reply. Apparently there are some issues. Hope this helps.

Here is Bobcats email in full.

"Dear Wendell,

Good morning and thank you for your email.

We apologize for the current issues you’re experiencing. Helium’s developers Nova Labs have recently completed migration from Helium’s own layer 1 blockchain to the Solana blockchain and due to this migration, there are many fundamental changes to different network components that have taken place. These fundamental changes have caused some temporary issues which will need to be worked out.

Currently, we are seeing some issues caused by changes to the Helium Miner software (known as Miner ). The core gateway-rs component has been redesigned by Nova Labs and as a result of this, many commands used to interface with Miner have changed or been removed. Hotspots running OTA version 1.0.3.15 or later are running the new Miner and this has affected functionality of a variety of systems causing these known issues, among others:

  • Hotspots are not able to be onboarded at this time. There is an issue preventing onboarding transactions from being registered on-chain. Nova Labs is collaborating with Makers to resolve this issue but until a resolution is published, onboarding new Hotspots will not work.
  • Hotspots show as offline in the Bobber App/Web Dashboard even when online. This is because the status is read differently for the new Miner version. This issue is actively being worked on.
  • Bluetooth pairing was not successful and resulted in the error message: Error. Invalid argument not valid semver (‘gateway-latest’ received) Please try again! This issue was corrected in a recent Bobber App update. Please update to the latest version of the Bobber App and Helium Wallet App and try again.
  • The Logs button of the Diagnoser does not properly display the log files. This is due to changes in where the log file is stored and changes to the commands to access logs in the new Miner version. This issue is actively being worked on.
  • The Dig section of the Diagnoser has been removed. This is due to recent Proof of Coverage changes and removal of Seed Nodes in the new Oracle system.

We are working as quickly as possible to resolve all issues but due to the fundamental nature of the many changes, we expect some delays as certain changes may be dependent on Nova Labs correcting certain issues. In the meantime, here are some steps you can take and things to keep in mind:

  • Verify if there is actually an issue with your Hotspot by checking its status on Helium Explorer. Appearing offline in the Bobber App/Web Dashboard may simply be a display issue.
  • If your Hotspot is running OTA version 1.0.3.15 or later and does not show activity on Helium Explorer, reboot your Hotspot. Some Hotspots required a Docker version upgrade to facilitate the new Miner version and if they did not successfully reboot after this upgrade, the new Docker version may not be running yet. Rebooting can resolve this.
  • Keep in mind there may be further issues with onboarding, managing, and monitoring your Hotspots. We are working to correct any issues as fast as possible.
  • For more information about the recent changes, refer to our Solana Migration FAQ.
  • Be aware that now that migration is complete, miners no longer earn HNT but instead earn their respective SubDAO token(s), IOT and MOBILE which can be swapped for HNT or sold on the secondary market. Mining rewards are now tracked per miner NFT and you must claim mining rewards, they will no longer be automatically deposited to your wallet. Claiming can be done as frequently or infrequently as you wish. For more information, refer to our Solana Migration FAQ.
  • Keep up to date with the latest bug and issue information as well as seeing when issues are resolved by joining the Helium Official Discord and following the #announcements channel where Nova Labs posts daily updates to issues. You can also refer to our article on Keeping Up with Helium Network’s Status and Changes for instructions on how to join the Discord and enable notifications for announcements.
  • Sit back, relax, and wait out the bug fix period. Nova Labs is working to ensure issues are corrected quickly and Bobber will work to ensure all functionality is compatible with the new Solana-based Helium network.

Kind regards and have a nice day,
Joyce"

Sounds like the typical copy-and-paste reply. Did you ever get your Bobcat issue resolved?

Yes they finally pushed an update. However the who new reward system is confusing and as worthless as before.
