In an alternative timeline let’s say BTC somehow got discontinued and migrated to the new LTC coin/BTC 2.0 to appeal its faster transactions etc, would’ve people had as much faith in it as today’s BTC?

No, BTC is respected because no one controls it. The smartest thing Satoshi did was to disappear shortly after making BTC.
