Don’t buy the bitmain x5

Bitmain is just trying to make a quick buck. Don’t fall for it again.

Most times when Bitmain makes a miner, it takes month from the announcement, to the shipment.

And right now you can see how Bitmain announces the new miner, and are saying they will ship out nearly immediately.

They will charge a fair price for it. Make it look appealing. But they just want to take the money before Monero will announce another fork.

And this would not be the first time that this has happened.

Back in 2018. Monero was on the CryptoNightR algo. But when the detected that 80 to 90% was Asics they forked away in 2019 to the RandomX algo.

This screwed all the people with the X3 miners, as they all became paper weights like Goldshell Kadena miners.

So in summary, 50 to 60 percent of the networks hashrate will becoming from ASICS, and it will be up to the community to decide if it forks.

I was trying to read up on that and found all the threads about the X3 and the fork. I figured XMR would fork again most likely as asics are not part of their philosophy near as I can tell.
Maybe the other RandomX options will still work out, but the reutuns are not going to be good. There aren’t many places to trade Epic Cash…
My most profitable machines so far have been iPollo G1 Mini’s on MWC to my own node, followed by ipollo V1 Mini’s on OCTA. All the rest are just treading water or running at a loss currently. Reckon I might have to shut down a bunch of Goldshells and get more ipollos.
Although I get a new power company in 2 days so will be on 8c (USD) at nights and weekends which will help a lot from where I am now.

Are. You still mining MWC? Because I am mining Grin to my own node with my g1 minis. I do that with all the coins I mine to just keep it a little more decentralized. (Also I hate pools).

have you seen any real discussion on them forking the algo again though? the landscape is nothing like it was in 2018, and I’d bet they just let ASICs stay… i mean does anything even happen at Monero anymore? They have no funding, their community and presence is weak, and when do you ever see XMR zealots anymore?

@Krisz - I had 1 doing Grin to node and 1 doing MWC to node and found MWC was a better return. They are so light on power and cheap to buy. Wish I’d gone all in on those and not the 13 various Goldshell Boxes I have here not earning. SC-Box is doing OK surprisingly.
@VoskCoin - I haven’t been able to really find much of a reaction in the XMR community when I looked around. I just found their earlier passion for asic resistance was encouraging that there would be a repeat. Or Bitmain will clock up another KDA / Kaspa style destruction of the little guy again.

I love the g1 minis as they use 90 watts, and are profitable.

Also a good thing about them is that they’re no halvings with Grin. And since the daily emission is low, there are no new manufacturers who make them and the hashrate stays mostly the same.
