Helium miner antenna upgrade

Finally getting my sycrobit next week, looking to upgrade the antenna any help suggestions?

Signalplus Helium Bobcat HNT Hotspot Lora LoT Antenna 868/915mhz 10dbi 35.4inch+32.8ft SMA/RP-SMA Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0927J1DCX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_GP39K17XYPK7JBX1M10E?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

The type of antenna that will work best for you very much depends on your location. There’s a lot of things to consider. A powerful antenna, anything over 8dbi, may not be the ideal type for you so be sure to do some research before you overspend and shoot yourself in the foot.

Perhaps if you gave us the city, general area of that city, and elevation level of where you plan on placing your hotspot then we can give a better suggestion

Well I’m in Edmonton Alberta Canada. I’ll be only miner in my hex and I’ll be in the second floor of a two-story building possibly later on to the roof

I’d say start off with either a 5.8 & 8 dbi antenna mounted on the roof of the building you live in and go from there. You may need to make some minor adjustments to the setup as you go along but it’s a good place to start

Thanks for the info I will look into it more.

I upgraded to. 6db as the topology where I alive is very hilly and the 4db but cat wasn’t cutting it. I never wanted to go for anything over 6db as I never wanted to end up missing nearby miners. I also put a 20 foot pole onto the side of my property also as I live in a bungalow so have a lot going against me.

With the new setup I have increased my activity by over 300%. Higher db aerial isn’t always better. The rule of thumb appears to be get the aerial outside and as high as possible.

Best of luck.
