Title says it, just curious as someone on Reddit posted pictures of a stack of boxes claiming to be 9050 L7’s selling for $11,300. I asked how and they responded “at first,we get them at price for bulk order. second,we’re doing business, sometimes we sell things even if it’s not enough for the cost, but we need money back to do other business.”
I also noticed that BT miners are selling L7’s cheaper than Bitmain. But I cant say Ive noticed it with any other stores I’ve looked at for other miners. Are there legitimate reasons like above to sell cheaper than manufacturer, or do these guys think Litecoin mining is going to tank and just cutting their losses? Ive never ordered from BT miners, but if they are US based dont they have an additional 25% import tax from China? Assuming they have to pay the import tax and sell it cheaper then isnt that a significant loss?
I know theres plenty of resellers on the forum so would love to hear. Cheers
Both are legit reasons. First, I can get a single L7 9050 shipped for $11,000 currently so they even have some room to come down if they want to sell it at a loss compared to what they can likely currently get it for. Bulk pricing I could get it for even less. Although they probably bought it for over $12,000 a few months ago. Prices have been falling recently on the L7s.
Second, L7s aren’t moving that fast right now and they may want to get that capital freed up for BTC and most likely KDA miners.
Thanks for that. With you being based in the US is it $11,000 + 25% import tax or is the import tax included in that price? (If you dont mind me asking) Super fascinating stuff, seems like a fun hustle!
There’s a lot to unravel in there but more often than not You’ll find these prices are controlled by the manufacturers. Something like the 9050 where people are less interested in because they want the higher hash rate, Bitmain will reduce what they’ll take for it just to get them sold and test the market. There are special prices offered to certain people on the mainland that allow them to resell at a profit, essentially operating as the manufacturers unofficial, independent sales force. The manufacturers don’t typically have sales people, they would be more closely related to company reps really. Another factor for that miner in particular is that there has been a massive increase in interest in mining Kadena, so while it was highly desired at one point, it’s getting sidelined a little bit lately. There’s also been discussion about Dogecoin moving to POS, but that is really speculative and likely a long ways out if at all. And finally, it is an incredibly competitive space, especially lately in the USA with so much of the hash rate moving here recently, so margins get tightened just to pull in the customer base. There’s more nuance to it but that should give you an idea. If you’re looking, feel free to check out what we have as well. https://www.defi.equipment
