L9 immersion long term reliability experiences

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed that in Vosk’s recent videos, immersion cooling doesn’t seem very encouraging for ASICs other than the S19 series, mainly due to reliability concerns.

I currently have two L9 units that I was planning to immerse, with the goal of reusing the heat. However, I’m starting to question whether this is a good idea long-term in terms of reliability.

Does anyone here have firsthand experience — or know someone with long-term experience — running L9s in immersion oil? I’d really appreciate any insights before I commit to setting this up.

Thanks in advance!

I’ve never used immersion, but I’ve heard people say that the immersion oil can damage the capacitors on the hash boards, but I’ve heard people claim that the immersion oil “bit cool” or something like that, will not damage them, but they could all just be a sales and marketing gimmick for all I know. If you want to re-use the heat, I would add water cooling plates to them and use a radiator. If you’re not confident enough to add the water cooling plates yourself then there’s people like @eastcoastasic who can for you, he did my L7 for me (I shipped him my miner from Australia) It’s a hell of a lot cheaper in both product costs and shipping costs do go down that path. Cheers

Thanks for sharing. I didn’t think of that option before you mentioned it, but it is definitly much simpler modification then immersion, and removing the second loop circuit is a huge bennefit ofr heating. I have a cooling plate kit on order and will start the build next week. Thanks

Awesome mate, did you also get fan spoofers? I would also recommend leaving the back fans on and setting the fan speed to 10-20%

Great idea! I already have fan spoofers for my L9s, since I’m running them with an 8-inch inline fan for noise reduction, so I’ll definitely give that a try. I’ve ordered the cooling plates for my old S19 to test everything and gain some experience, so I’ll be more confident working on my more expensive L9s later.
