Mini doge II is too loud

Got my first ASIC miner today and it’s mining! That’s exciting. Only problem is, it’s too freakin loud. Actually, it’s the PSU fan (Bitmain) that is making all the noise (nearly 60 db), not the miner itself. OK, so how do I fix this? Can I install a quieter fan? Or should I get another PSU?

Hey mate, yeah unfortunately all ASICS are like that, I don’t have a mini doge but I personally like to put fan simulators on and have exhaust fans, might not be worth it for a mini doge though. Or there’s the upstream data black box you can DIY which kills the sound pretty good. I’ve actually designed a 3D printable version of the black box to fit one S19 miner, it’s like a flat pack you can just slot together. I could probably re design it to fit a mini doge (it has to be no gaps you can’t allow hot air to blow back in the cold side) and could probably design a seperate one for the PSU (it has a seperate PSU right?) if that interests you let me know I love doing that kind of stuff and I’ll see what I can put together

Thanks. This was my entry into mining, and unfortunately so far, it doesn’t look promising. I thought I could run this thing in my office, but on top of being too loud, it really puts out the heat too. It is not tolerable to run in the day, so I’m just going to run it at night.
Yes, PSU is separate. I did order a quieter PSU (EVGA) so maybe I can run it during the day, in the winter.
It’s funny, no matter how much research you do, you never know what obstacles you’ll find until you actually try it. I don’t remember any YouTuber saying the PSU was loud.
Anyway… you may have something there with the black box. I’m sure other people that get into mining as a hobby would like something like that.

Yeah, if you just buy an ATX psu its A LOT Quiter than the little server psu’s since the fan is so small its gotta spin REALLY fast to keep it from :firecracker:
