Can anyone tell me what is going on here? I just set up my first HNT miner (COOL LICORICE WOMBAT) about a week ago. Then a couple of days later a hotspot came online in the hex next to mine. WooHoo, I thought great placement…but then a few days later that hotspot went offline. As I look around me, what looks to be the same machine (unless there was a big run of smart mimics sold around me, all with 1.2db antennas set at 0M for a height) popping up, and then going offline. Are they trying to “reserve” hex’s for themselves or what??? These are the ones I found that all seem to be the same machine:
ABLE HAZEL GAZELLE
DANDY SABLE OSPREY
EARLY VELVET GIRAFFE
MODERN VANILLA LADYBUG
They are attempting to hack/game. If you click on EARLY VELVET GIRAFFE in the hex next to you, it shows they have 500 hotspots located throughout the US. I’m fairly new to Helium mining as well (I just deployed my first SenseCAP a little over a week ago) but I see this near me as well. I’m sure the Helium vets here see this frequently. If you look thru these hotspots, most of them are offline. Also, as you noticed, they all say 1.2dBi antenna at 0m. It’s always seems the same. The hackers/gamers trying to assert these anywhere they can to get money not matter what the cost.
I also noticed your hotspot is Relayed. Do you need help fixing that? I maybe new to Helium mining but have been a Network Engineer for over 12yrs and would like to help if needed/wanted. Just let me know. That goes for ANYONE!!!
Yes, I need help with that, thanks. I had a friend of mine who is a programmer come over and set my miner onto a static IP, and we set up port forwarding, but it still shows relayed. I’m flying out of town for a few days, but when I get back I’ll shoot you a message. I’ve got a few more miners on order, as my company has offices all over New England, and has no problem with me putting miners in them, so knowing how to get these things asserted onto the network without being relayed will be a big help.
Sounds good. I’m doing the same with as many as I can in Connecticut where I live. I would happy to help you with distributing and setting those up. If anyone else reads this, still can’t figure out their Relay issue and would like some help, I will do my best to respond and be available for you. The less Relayed hotspots on the network, the better for EVERYONE!!!
Thanks, that will be super helpful.
I am still trying to get a miner. Seems like all of them have six months or more of lead time.
I bought a SenseCAP from Amazon for $900 and got it in 3days. I just bought one even though I wasn’t 100% sure it was legit. Now that I know it is I am buying 4 more…
You can defilnitely find them. They might be more expensive but at least it looks like I should get my ROI in 4mo.
Doing pretty well with a 5.8dBi antenna.
Sent you a message.
