Hi, I have the above “external” USB to “external PCI slot” to enable my laptop to connect to a GPU…
I was wondering which GPUs may be the best to use? - I probably just want to try it out initially, so a cheapy GPU may be ok…

Unless you have an external Power supply I would highly recommend NOT doing that. There is a high chance your laptop will not survive even a mid sized GPU
