Pros and Cons of a PDU

I am trying to figure out why I should get a PDU(Power Delivery Unit) for ASIC mining.
Pros:
multiple outlets
more expensive ones ($500+) are monitored and switched so you can view and reset remotely. Not worth it in my opinion.

Cons:
Can only run 2, maybe 3 S19s on one
No Surge protection
Expensive for advanced features.

I was expecting surge protection and signal conditioning when I first started looking into them. But that is not the case. They are simply a power strip. I am hard pressed to find a 240v version with protection.

The PDUs have 5-20 outlets but you can only run 2 or 3 ASICS, a bit of a waste. It seems much cheaper to just make your own wires/power strip and save a couple hundred dollars by not using a PDU.

Am I missing something?

Was thinking that as well, just add multiple outlets to the circuit

I went with a sub-panel. 240v 20amp breakers with 2 outlets on each circuit. I intend on adding whole house surge protection. I don’t feel the need to monitor it, and if it trips, something is wrong.
