Anyone use a solar generator to operate just a few small asic miners at home? If so how? Is it worth it? Any recommendations?
Hey I think it’s worth it but it depends on where you live and current market conditions. for example in Australia electricity is on average 23c/kwh usd so that is very expensive to run a miner. Best summer days where I live a 40kwh system can generate more than 300kwh but the worst winter days is between 15-20kwh. Someone posted here the other day saying in Serbia their electricity is 7c/kwh usd. If you have electricity that cheap I wouldn’t worry about it. But the main reason why I think it is worth it is because you can use this electricity for your home, Solar lasts 30 years and Lithium batteries last 10-15 years. For me mining pays for that equipment and ensures my family can continue to live a good quality of life compared to some areas where there are energy shortages and possible rolling blackouts. Can charge my wifes electric car while fuel prices have spiked and will spike again and possible shortages in future. This is just my opinion though.
The real answer to your question is to talk to a solar installer, get a good idea of how much solar you will generate a year in your area and compare that to the electric market rate in your area. How long will it take to pay off the miner + solar system? Take a look at solar export rates - Wholesale solar exports are through the roof in my area because our electricity is generated only from Natural gas, solar and wind. So Natural gas prices are through the roof making solar exports higher. So days where you have a ton of excess solar you can make more money which can bring your total ROI timeframe down.
Good luck
Except in EXTREME circumstances mining on solar would be at a loss. I have solar and the only reason it works for me is that it keeps me out of a teared usage plan not the power in generates. Here in Komifornia the libtards want to take that away.
