Hey All! So I am new to this forum, and new to mining although I have been in crypto since 2017.
I really want to dive in, but wanted to start simple, I was looking at the Goldshell KD-Box miner to start. Obviously mining rig prices are insane right now but want to start learning anyways.
What would be a good price (as of now, not MSRP from this spring) for a new/used KD-Box be?
What is a reasonable ROI these days? 3 months, 6 months, a year?
And last question, how often do you need to replace the miners to stay competitive?
$6,700 would give you an 8 month ROI right now with KD-Box making $28 a day. No one knows if it will be making less or more (hopefully) in the future. I personally wouldn’t spend more than $5,000 on one.
Thank you for the reply @JoeJoe ,it is a risk bc it depends on the coins price movement, but I am willing to take a little risk bc the payout will still be me learning more about mining. I would love to find one for $5000, but I dont think that is even possible for a used one in this market. I keep checking Goldshells website, hoping when new ones come out they havent jacked them up again… ha
If you are thinking of getting into mining KDA, do so with a long-term mindset. Knowledge is power.
Also know that mining any cryptocurrency such as KDA, should be done with responsibility and knowledge. KDA only works if it remains decentralize. If KDA continues to be centralized as it exists currently today, it will be at risk to attacks. Such as 51% attacks.
Miners should keep tabs on how KDA mining hash rate is spread across the available pools. If any pool has more than 51%, than it puts KDA at risk. Spread you KDA miners amongst the available pools equally. A little short-term loss is worth decentralizing KDA.
Do your research. Read the whitepapers on KDA and plan. Home - Kadena
And mine responsibly
There will be a time when KDA will have more than enough pools to pick from. Then will be the time to pick the most efficient pool.
Now, with the limited pools available, we have to split our miners amongst the available pools equally. Regardless on pool efficiency.
The good news is, so far, from my limited tests, it seems like Dxpool and Poolflare have only small differences between actual payouts. Splitting my miners between the two equally will give me a nice average and help secure the KDA network by keeping it decentralized.
I hope all current and new KDA miners will do the same.
@SpragClutch thanks for the reply! I hear you, the reason I got into BTC back in 2017 was because of its purpose, so I am all about keeping any project I mine/support decentralized! Once I do get my hands on a KD-Box or KD2 I will be back asking questions on set up and mining pools for sure!
You have no idea how glad I am that you have a similar mindset (when it comes to crypto) as me!
Any idea on where to start looking for a KD Box or KD2? As of now I have created an account with Goldshell and I am keeping an eye on the website to see if any inventory becomes available.
Keep trying Goldshell or DXpool. They will have the best prices, but competition is tough. You can subscribe to both of them to let you know when they restock. They usually restock at around 3am (Central time). And sell out within hours.
Otherwise, I’d stick with Newegg or eBay for buyer protection. You will pay more at these places and taxes, but sometimes you can find deals.
I’m in the process of buying from a good source, but will wait until it fully goes through before officially recommending.
@SpragClutch wow thanks for the tips! I will keep my eye out, especially at 3am. If I have a couple of hours to pick one up, especially at MSRP, I will def try! I truly appreciate your tips!
So as I signed up for Goldshell I learned that they take crypto payments from wallets which is nice. It looks like DXpool does the same. Its only mention is having to use ETH chain can be used when paying with USDC. Do they allow other cyrpto payments like Goldshell?
I believe Dxpool accepts the same types as Goldshell does. Also, there are some very believable copy scam websites for Dxpool. Scary how similar they look. Check the web address. I dont want to post the link as I dont want to post the wrong one or have anyone get scammed.
Agreed, lots of scams. Check and follow Goldshell and DXPool’s official Twitter accounts - they post when the drops are along with the official urls of their shops.
Spending that much money from a new source is always nerve racking…
Personally the piece of mind was worth the higher price I got my miner at.
I went through newegg … paid more than ideal but through a company I’ve used for at least 15yrs.
Piece of mind is valuable
My bonus about going the more expensive newegg route is that they accept credit . So Ididn’t have to transfer any crypto.
Which allows me to sell less coin to pay for the bill than I would have if I paid in full with crypto.
Two fold on tax savings… the next state over does not get sales tax applied. Setting my shipping address across the state line saved me several hundred dollars in sales tax
From DXPool’s drop. I got one for $2,999 with at LB-Box 3 weeks ago. They just had a drop a few days ago with a LB-Box, HS-Box, and KD-Box buldle for $5,238. If you didn’t want the LB and HS you could put them on eBay and get 1,300-1,500 back. The KD would then cost you less than $4K.
With the price of KDA continuing to drop these miners prices should as well. Now KD-Box making just $18 a day vs $45 last month.
if the price of asic’s came down at the same rate as the coin values that would be great …
Usually that isn’t the case though. Prices skyrocket when coin value goes up…but tends to linger before, if ever, coming down when when the market dips.
