PSUs for multi kd boxs & iPollos

Started mining at the end of June, and probably a very similar story here for most… Once I realized how simple it was I am now up to 12 mini miners and really having a great time for the first time in a long time fellas and ladies.

So I’m starting to take this very seriously and want to harden my system and start connecting multiple mining units to single psus to increase efficiency and to have just better hardware.

The Asics I went for our ipollo mini plus’ and goldshell kd boxs’.

I see some pretty cool Corsair and Hive modular power supplies that look just better quality than what comes with these miners.

Excuse my ignorance but what are some great PSU like those where I can rely on more efficiency to 2-3 units per PSU? I’m not sure if the pins line up in those models maybe some of you have some experience with specific psus that are within budget that comes through for this application?

Thanks y’all

You can use goldshell 1200w psu and power up to 4 goldshell box miners. Click on my avatar and visit my website if you wish to make a purchase. I am selling it for $225. The price is pretty much the same as if you were to go buy one directly from goldshell. Extra $25 covers for shipping fees. I hope this helps.

I appreciate the reply cryptominernv. That would be a solution I would consider, however I’m also looking for aftermarket psus that could be switched between both ASIC models. iPollo and kd box. Something with capacitors made in Japan and other upgraded fans and hardware.

I will be using these for my KD-box pro and other mini miners

The beauty with the 1200w platinum psu’s is they are very quiet. Email them and explain what your running and what power draw your box’s need and they will recommend what works best. They are also very reasonably priced.

You need to use the power cord that comes with iPollo or you void your warranty. So you will not be able to switch.
Ipollo comes with a USA power cord I just use a nice surge protector and plug in easy peasy.
For Godlshell I perfer the hp 1200w platinum plus power supply for 3-4 miners(around $152) or the 750w platinum plus for two miners(only $55) and the 16awg 6pin cables with a breakout board it is cheaper and less chance you will melt your miner than the Goldshell power supply.

Thank you for that info :cowboy_hat_face: keep them coming if you got it and we can add to this as it rolls.

Dave_Wolter I have plenty of outlets and plan to have my electrician out here very soon to add quads and eight socket power outlets and increasing the amperage tolerance on some of my circuit breakers… Do y’all think it’s better to plug directly into the wall with this hardening or to add a surge protector?

iPollo PSU seems really underwhelming for the machine it powers… But warranties and all respect

I use a surge protector on all my outlets just in case :grinning:

Good reply. I agree with you.

Just watched a tube vid from the Vos //\an himself and he recommended ATX for the mini KD box line. but… He was saying something like a single KD box unit required 750w delivered via ATX/jumper method. (This was the older 1.6t/h).

Would you have to choose a higher wattage with ATX compared to the server PSUs to run asics?

For example, 750w server style PSU will power 2 KD box pros. 750w ATX powers 1? Or is that totally incorrect?

Thanks everyone,
bY

I would not use an ATX with a 230W KD box pro. They are known to melt the miners after 4-6 months. What matters is the Wattage of the miner. If it is 61W an ATX would be fine but at 230W it will melt.

I’m sold on server PSU thanks for the direct direction!

Hey Dave. Question about your comment here. I’m new to these mini miners. So far I have 2 Avalon miners with self contained PSUs that have been mining Bitcoin for over a year now. I just bought 2 Goldshell KD Box Pros and hope to add two more soon. MY plan was to use 2 ATX PSUs. 2 machines per PSU. But having read your comment here I’m wondering if that is a bad idea. I was looking at something like this: Thermaltake Toughpower PF1 ARGB 850W 80+ Platinum. Though I had not decided on the W amount yet. Mainly want something that looks finished/nice bc this will be in a high traffic area. Is it that I need larger than 850 (1200 or so) or is there something inherent to the UTX types of PSUs that causes the melting issue? I had not heard of that anywhere and so many folks recommend these UTX types of PSUs. So more confused than ever before now. Haha. BUT at the end of the day I’ll pick not melting miners over the aesthetics here if need be.

Also… do you have a recommendation for a good surge suppressor that would handle four of these Mini KD boxes, the PSU and I assume I need to run my ethernet cables into the surge protector as well. I do not know if I need to account for the PSU when I calculate how much power I’m pulling from the wall or if they basically pull what the miners pull? Thanks in advance for your assistance. I do not want to burn my house down. Haha.

If you are concerned I would consult an electrician.
What I have researched is first you have to check where you are placing you miners and what voltage you have.
I run 120V
Then how many amps you have and what you are running on the circuit.
I am running on a 15 amp circuit and a 20 amp circuit
15amp 1440w Max
20amp 1800w Max
You need to make sure that everything you have plugged into the circuit does not go over the wattage
I always use under by a few hundred watts
Then you need a PSU that can handle the wattage of the number of miners you want to use
I use a 1200w platinum plus up server it does get hot so I have a Honeywell fan keeping it cool
I have 675w running through that server
I have 2 750w platinum plus hp server PSU and I Run 450W on 1 and 450W on the other these PSU’s only get warm so I highly recommend them.

Thanks! I appreciate all your advice. I’ll look into these HP units. It’s funny how we get thru life without ever thinking about all this and then you start mining and you end up needing to understand it all. Thanks again!

I want to mine! Everything I do seems to involve a scam! I know its my fsult! I remember this same time happening in 3018 about 4 months after I got help from Victor at Trust Wallet! He was si honest and walked me thru ‘Just Downloading the Trust Wallet’ and buying my 1st ETH. Oh’ with 3 minutes left in An honest ICO i also made my only ICO purchase. That took 3 days!! Lol It ws a great thing for me! It a lot of ways! But , it made me think that people on the internet doing Crypto were Honest! Wow! Was i wrong! I have paid every scammer and there brother already! I new this time would come. Its my chance to get in at good prices! All i need you 1 more honest person or group to help me get started mining! Im thinking Helium 1st as I live where people are not involved. I also have family that lives around me. But Im not sure if The bobcat miner is what we have to use or if the ones i am seeing for half the price is just as good? There are a lot for sale on e-bay still in the box? No 6 month pre- ordering . . I also have a small gaming computer that was using to mine from the Crypto Tab browser team. And paid for a year of Cloud mining from the i phone that will no longer load! ‘Says its no longer offered in my Country!?) From the Crypto tab browse team also?? It fid pay out for a few months? Not sure ehat to do now? Any Advice please?

I just bought two iPollo miners from powpower.net not bad

I started mining a few months ago with a Bobcat 300. The results are not exactly what I was hoping for. The break even is going to be about 9 months. But none the less good for sitting on my butt. I want to get started with KD mining. What would you suggest now that you have experience under your belt.

Hi there -

I have had success using 2-3 Goldshell boxes with this power supply:

Corsair RMX Series, RM850x, 850 Watt

You will also need this jumper:

SDTC Tech 24-Pin ATX Power Supply Jumper Bridge Tool PSU

Both are on Amazon.

Chris

+1 for HP 1200W and breakout board - just get the board with a mechanical power switch if you will be using any sort of remote switch or timer.

As for shawn_pewitt - I got scammed on an M2 deal recently. Makes you feel bad. I was dumb. Start with whatever HNT miner you can get. They cost nothing to run and can be quote profitable still. I like the Nebra outdoor as you don’t need to use hard to manage cable to get an external aerial.
I got the last one from this guy - it went great:

How loud are the hp server power supplies? I’m thinking of moving 2 goldshell mini miners into a room that’s always colder than the others, but noise would be a problem. Thanks!
